Will too much shade on a house cause problems?

Trees for Energy Conservation April 27, 2016 Print Friendly and PDF

Shade on your home can help reduce energy costs by reducing the cooling requirements inside your home. Air conditioning units also benefit from being shaded and operate more efficiently while shaded.

Shade may result in some nuisance problems, like increased humidity around your home that may lead to the growth of moss, mold, or algae on your siding or roofing. Careful placement of trees to maintain good air flow can provide you with a balance of shade that helps with the energy efficiency of your home while minimizing problems.
