John Porter head shot

John is the West Virginia University Extension agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Kanawha County.  His work centers on developing opportunities for youth and adults to enjoy gardening and agriculture in the state’s most urban county.  His major program efforts include urban and homeowner horticulture issues, including hosting the first West Virginia Urban Agriculture Conference in 2014.  He is also the weekly garden columnist for the Sunday Charleston Gazette-Mail, a paper with statewide distribution in West Virginia. John is also a regular contributor to the national Extension Master Gardener blog and teaches many workshops across the state and beyond. 

Mr. Porter received his B.S. degree from Marshall University in botany, and his M.S. degree from West Virginia University in horticultural sciences.
