Wanda H. Burke is a Southern University Ag Center Extension Specialist, and she serves as Director of Southwest Center for Rural Initiative. She currently specializes in 4-H and Youth Development with emphasis in coping and self-management, youth leadership, and human development. Wanda has a PhD in Education (Agriculture and Extension Education), a M.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences (Secondary Education), and a B.S. in Home Economics. Her research focus is on Family and Consumer Sciences ‘and its relationship to adolescent self-esteem. In addition, her specializations include textile, clothing construction, color analysis, and personal living. She is currently working on several projects which includes the following: Building Digital Communities in Rural Louisiana, Health Living Initiatives, Developing Modules for Louisiana Statewide After School Programs, and she regularly contributes to eXtension Teen Leadership Community of Practice (CoP). Prior to Southern University, she worked as a Family and Consumer Science professor and Clothing Specialist at Alcorn State University, Lorman, Mississippi.
