Deepika is a doctoral student in Dr. Debra Palmer’s lab; her research has been to effectively educate consumers and health professionals about omega-3s.  She has conducted surveys with the general population and health professionals to find out what they want to learn about omega-3s and what misconceptions are prevalent regarding these fats.  Deepika has also worked closely with leading omega-3 scientists from around the country to help create research based information to address common questions and bust misconceptions regarding omega-3s.  All this information is housed in the omega-3s resource area of eXtension in the form of content articles and frequently asked questions. She has also developed a grocery store companion podcast that helps consumers shop for omega-3 rich foods.  This podcast has helped consumers across New Jersey understand the importance of omega-3s and how to include omega-3 rich foods in their daily diets.
