IPM Basics in Schools for Facility Managers

Pest Management In and Around Structures November 08, 2016 Print Friendly and PDF

School facility manager.

Facility managers perform many different functions to ensure that buildings and their services meet the needs of the people who work in them. Some of these include managing building and grounds sanitation and maintenance, upkeep of equipment and supplies, ensuring safety and security and even managing the budget for these services. Thus, facility managers can be very influential in a school IPM program because many of their responsibilities are linked to pest management.  This module, conveniently divided into three learning lessons, will help learners to prepare for this important role.

This information will help greatly in decision making and effectively responding to a pest problem, along with your other duties. Use this module to develop your own presentation and educate your colleagues. Most schools place great importance to the landscape and grounds associated with their buildings. A healthy and functional landscape complements the school buildings and enhances the learning and working environment.  Pests and pesticides used in the landscape can migrate indoors, or affect children and adults who play or work in the area. This module, conveniently divided into four lessons, is specifically organized for landscape and grounds staff who have an important responsibility in the school IPM plan.  The lessons discuss practices to maintain healthy landscapes and turf, physical, cultural and biological pest control methods, and identification of common landscape and turf weeds, insects and diseases.
