John Orick earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Purdue University in Turfgrass Science. John’s work experience includes nearly 10 years in the golf course maintenance industry, including 4 years as an assistant golf course superintendent at two different Indiana golf courses. He served as a Purdue Extension Educator in Madison County for 16 years. During his career with Purdue Extension, John coordinated a very active Purdue Master Gardener program that provided horticulture education through a variety of programs and events. Some Madison County Master Gardener events included: an Advanced Master Gardener training, garden tours, Saturday garden series, youth gardening day camps, and assisting with annual Master Gardener Intern trainings. John currently serves as Purdue Master Gardener State Coordinator in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. There are over 2,700 Extension Master Gardener volunteers in Indiana, contributing over 155,000 volunteer hours annually valued at over $3.5 million.
