How do I plant a windbreak?

Trees for Energy Conservation April 27, 2016 Print Friendly and PDF

A windbreak can provide protection from winter winds and help conserve energy through reduced heating costs.

Block prevailing winter winds that generally come from the north or northwest by planting evergreen trees and shrubs on the north or northwest side of your home. Determine the expected mature height of the trees, then plant the trees a distance equal to one to two times this measure from your home for maximum windbreak effect.
