Wanda Roberts, Michigan State University Extension

Wanda Roberts helps consumers set realistic personal and financial goals.  She emphasizes that managing a spending plan is a means of managing a way of life. Our personal choices do impact our health – personal, financial and emotional.

Wanda uses a holistic approach in helping people to become better managers of their own finances. She helps them assess their income and spending patterns, develop and maintain realistic budgets, review and correct their credit reports, use financial decision tools, and avoid costly financial and predatory lending practices. The ultimate goal is to help individuals become knowledgeable consumers and confident investors.

Wanda is an Extension Educator with Michigan State University Extension’s Financial and Homeownership Education Team. In addition to her 24 years of Extension experience she has worked as a financial advisor. Wanda also is a past co-chair of eXtension’s Financial Security for All Community of Practice.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing from Michigan State University’s College of Business and a Master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University. She is also a certified Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Certified housing counselor; and holds a NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling Financial Capability Certification.

Wanda has been instrumental in creating a partnership with Michigan’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services Investor Education in Your Community program. This has resulted in several national webinars and the development of the My Money & Me saving and investing series. She also teaches a Money Management workshop series along with other financial education seminars in local communities.  Although Wanda teaches many aspects of personal finance, her specific focus is on credit and investing. Her aim is to simplify discussing money topics openly and honestly so that families can be financially healthy.
