Nancy Porter

Nancy Porter is a Personal and Family Finance Extension Consultant with the University of Idaho Extension. Previously, Nancy was an Extension Specialist with Colorado State University and Clemson University in South Carolina.

Nancy received her Ph.D. in family resource management from Virginia Tech and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in home economics education from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. She is certified in family and consumer sciences (CFCS) and is a Registered Financial Gerontologist (RFG). 

Highlights of Nancy’s long and distinguished career in Extension include serving as leader of national initiatives including Financial Security in Later Life and Managing in Tough Times. She also served as the Principal Investigator for the Online Investor Education for Farm Families which was funded by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. Nancy also completed several shared faculty terms with the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Nancy has written articles for academic journals, including the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, conference proceedings, and other professional publications as well as articles for the popular press. She has held leadership roles in numerous state and national professional associations including Treasurer of the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) and two terms as President of the South Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (SCAFCS). 

Nancy has received a dozen awards for program excellence from national, regional, state, and university groups and has managed more than $1 million in grant funding to support financial education programs.
